The current US model of health care financing, which rewards the volume of services provided, is in need of transformation to a model that encourages integrated payment approaches that are patient-centered and holistic in advancing individual, community, and population health.
The National Academy of Medicine Leadership Consortium and the Health and Medicine Division’s Board on Health Care Services recently hosted a virtual workshop series, Financing That Rewards Better Health and Well-Being, focusing on:
- Identifying examples of care delivery and payment models focused on patient outcomes and advancing health equity
- Considering barriers and opportunities to scaling effective integrated payment models and approaches
- Discussing strategies for transforming health financing to improve equity and individual and population health
