As you may know, the Certified in Care Coordination and Transition Management (CCCTM) certification program was transferred from the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB) to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) last year. ANCC has been responsible for all activities related to CCCTM certification renewal since October 31, 2020.

Since the transfer, the ANCC Commission on Certification (COC) has been evaluating data related to the CCCTM exam and options to re-introduce initial exam testing. AAACN has been informed that ANCC will not refresh the CCCTM examination at this time. The CCCTM credential will continue to be available for renewal only to nurses who already hold the credential. If you are CCCTM certified, you will receive separate specific communication directly from ANCC on how to maintain your credential through certification renewal only.

While the CCCTM exam will not be available for new applicants, ANCC is interested in exploring the potential for a broader board certification in an area that may align with care coordination and transition management, such as population health. AAACN has been invited to explore this in collaboration with ANCC and will begin conversations shortly.

CCTM remains a top priority for AAACN. A task force has been appointed to review CCTM Course evaluations and provide recommendations for revisions to the next version of the course. AAACN also offers the evidence-based CCTM Core Curriculum, 2nd Edition, and Scope and Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses in CCTM, a Business Case Template and other resources for CCTM RNs. AAACN is committed to CCTM practice and growing and supporting this critical nursing role, our members, and all of those who have invested in CCTM.

We will provide progress updates as they become available. Please contact ANCC at certification@ana.org for more information about how to renew your CCCTM certification through ANCC.
